There is no manual for a developing embryo …
… yet we overlook this fact everyday!
No one hands a fetus instructions for growing its organs.
There’s no orientation packet, no protocol, no coach standing by to explain how to grow a heart or fold a neural tube.
Yet… it happens — on a timeline the organism sets itself.
The easy version of this observation is that the body needs nothing. That’s not quite it, and it’s worth being precise about why. The embryo isn’t instruction-free. It’s running on the most sophisticated instruction set that exists — encoded, internal, self-executing. Nobody is feeding it information from outside. It already contains what it needs to proceed.
That’s the actual claim, and it’s a stranger one than “trust your body” merchandise usually lets on: the organism is not waiting for direction. It is the direction.
Self-instructing
Self-regulating
Self-soothing
… long before anyone has a name for soothing or a reason to need it.
Somewhere between that and adulthood, we picked up the opposite assumption. We started to believe the body needs us, or someone selling us something, to install the missing operating instructions.
Drink this.
Avoid that.
Optimize the other thing.
The entire architecture of the wellness industry rests on the premise that the body is incompetent until instructed otherwise.
But the body was never incompetent. It was, and remains, the most competent thing in the room. What changes with age isn’t capacity — it’s conditions. Chronic stress, depleted resources, disrupted signaling, a nervous system that’s been in defense mode long enough to forget what off feels like. The system doesn’t need new orders. It needs the static cleared so its own signal can come through.
This is the distinction I keep returning to in my work: support versus instruction. An instruction says do this. Support says here is what you already know how to do — let’s remove what’s in the way of you doing it. One assumes deficiency. The other assumes the embryo was right all along, and just needs the same self-trust extended a little further into the rest of the life it’s living.
This is also, not coincidentally, the foundation of the work I teach. Constituent-level aromatherapy isn’t another instruction layered onto a body that’s already drowning in them. It’s a way of reading what the body is already signaling, and choosing support that meets it precisely — rather than generically.
If that distinction is useful to you, and you’re a practitioner or clinician wanting to go deeper into how this actually works at the biochemical level, email me — I’ll send details on the upcoming course.
